Recently I had to repair my /etc/fstab after resiszing and moving partitions. I guessed how to figure out the UUID of the drives that is now used in /etc/fstab, but googling didn't deliver usable results. Meanwhile I found it out by "accident" on another mailinglist:
lists all partitions and their UUIDs

After I installed Intrepid Ibex on my new Alienware m15x, I was looking for some tuning tech tips to get out maximum performance of this machine. System tuning is a long-termed process and in most cases, 80 percent of the work only brings minimal performance enhancements. I really found a good blog entry which explicitly lists up only some tuning tips, that should bring greater improvements -- dedicated to the 80/20 rule:

Logitech MX1000 and Ubuntu |

Finally.... I got my Logitech MX1000 to work with all buttons under Intrepid Ibex (Ubuntu 8.10).
The basic installation can be found here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MX1000Mouse
This made the mx1000 work basically, everything but the 3rd thumb button (the application switchter button) worked. the tips using xvkbd didn't really work. after a post on ubuntuusers.de I got the final tip - use xautomation / xte instead of xvkbd:
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/wie-belegt-man-super%2Be-windows-taste%2Be-mit-xb/
"xte 'keydown Super_L' 'key e' 'keyup Super_L'"
b:10 # Maustaste 10
maps the 3rd thumb button to "Super+e" which is the Exposé shortcut for compiz.
perfect!
